Durham Transport takes first two Stralis tractors

12 October 2006

Durham fleet GMC Transport has taken its first two Stralis tractor units. The 440hp 6x2s have the 'Handbrake Alert' warning device, now available on all makes nationwide from dealer North East Truck and Van. The alert is connected to the truck's audio system and emits a warning, should the driver open the door whilst the handbrake is disengaged.

Handbrake Alert differs from conventional 'buzzers', which can be easily mistaken for other types of in-cab alerts. GMC has taken the trucks on  three-year leases with repair and maintenance, for general haulage work across the UK. They are part of a 47-strong fleet. The drivers like the trucks and especially the space inside the cab and the automated gearshift, says director Michael Clarke.
