Skills for Logistics goes on charm offensive

19 October 2006

Skills for Logistics, the sector skills council for the freight logistics industry, is calling on companies to sign up to an affiliation scheme. The scheme "aims to facilitate deeper engagement between SfL and employers, with a view to driving long-term change within the industry by tackling skills and productivity needs through collaborative action".

In exchange for agreeing to support Skills for Logistics' objectives and taking an active involvement in related activities, affiliate members  will enjoy a host of benefits including: early access to breaking news and to research free copies of research reports use of an affiliate logo dedicated training advice discounted rates for attendance at SfL events and the right to propose nominations for membership of the SfL. The Scheme is free to join.

GeoPost is an early affiliate. Chief executive Kay Phillips, CEO of GeoPost said: "We are keenly aware of the importance of tackling the logistics industry's skills shortages and see affiliation as a great way to play an active role in this." SfL is more than mid-way through a three-year programme of development to self-funding status and has struggled to win and keep the support of sections of the industry. Its "staircase" programme has been criticised by hauliers.
