Suckling Transport's Website

19 October 2006

The first thing that would strike a potential customer when entering the homepage is the attractive red and cream colouring. Suckling's company motto - 'Sharing resources for a better future'- is displayed in a variety of sizes and neatly dominates the left-hand side of the screen. In the centre under a 'Welcome' sign there is a concise summary of the Suckling business. We find out where the company is based, its safety achievements  and its fleet size. At the end is a box entitled 'Fuel Haulage Calculator - click here for an instant quote.'

Underneath the menu there is a collection of cropped pictures of the Suckling fleet and four boxes - two entitled 'TankShare', one marked 'Suckling Transport' and one called 'Eco Guardian'. Back to the menu. The first option is 'About Us'. Click on this and you enter a page where at first glance you are presented with the same information you read under 'Welcome'. However, there are links available here where you can click through to find out more about the quality standards that Suckling has reached and its safety procedures.

The next menu option is 'News'. It is heartening to see that it has recently been updated on September 28. In fact Suckling's Autumn, Summer, Spring and Winter news bulletins stretch back to 2002. Each bulletin contains 10 news stories including information on new contracts, awards, employee achievements, and service improvements/additions.  The next menu button is 'The Environment'. This details Suckling's Eco Guardian vehicle which reduces particulate matter emissions by over 93%. There is also a list of environmental objectives and guidelines which the company follows. This is all set out next to a photograph of blue sky and white clouds.

The next menu button provides the user with the information on TankShare. This is the first groupage service designed for oil tanker distribution. The final two buttons are entitled Advertisements and Contacts. The Contacts list is very comprehensive and includes the personal email addresses of all the company's major players. This is very rare among transport websites and is a very useful addition. The Advertisements page lists vehicles for sale and job opportunities.

So what else? To click on the fuel calculator of course. This provides a drop down list of all Suckling's depots. Put in a destination postcode and there is indeed an instant calculation of how much a particular trip would cost. There is also a telephone number provided where a customer can place an order with Suckling's sales team.  In summary, this is a very customer friendly site which can be navigated with ease. Perhaps there could be more information about the directors of the company, a list of existing customers and history of the company upfront on the site, but overall this is an impressive website which other operators would do well to look at. A customer friendly site which can be navigated with ease.
