Yearsley Group's contract win with Unilever Ice Cream and Frozen Foods was based on a seven-year performance record, says general manager Geoff Herring.
The chilled and frozen foods distribution firm won the work in July to continue offering UICF consolidation and distribution throughout the UK for 18 months.
The contract was originally with Celsius First, which Yearsley bought in April after it went into administration. Herring says the transport management contract was a bespoke operation, and Celsius First "had nothing else like it in its portfolio. It operated independently from the rest of the business".
The work could have gone elsewhere depending on what Yearsley wanted to do with the business, he adds.
All staff from Celsius First were transferred to Yearsley in the sale. The contract was due to expire in May and Yearsley ran it on a temporary arrangement until confirmation of the work two months later.
