Roadways Container Logistics has reported a pre-tax loss in its latest accounts.
Pre-tax losses for the marine container haulage firm have hit £647,000 in the year to December 31, 2005, tumbling from profits of £913,000 in 2004. The company's revenue has only slightly dipped, to £70.3m in 2005 from £70.7m in 2004.
Gross profit has however grown, to £11.0m in 2005 from £9.95m in 2004. But even before considering financing costs, operating profit dipped to £952,000 in 2005 from £1.40m in 2004.
AP Moller Maersk bought the company's owner Royal P&O Nedlloyd in August 2005. Closure of the Coatbridge terminal in Scotland was announced six months ago, while the Perry Bar depot closed in July. Significant changes have also happened among the company directors after a spate of appointments and resignations dating back to June 2005.
Directors' emoluments jumped by 96% to £538,000 in 2005 from £274,000 in 2004.
Staff costs hit £17.7m in 2005, a jump of 5%, but average staff numbers remained static at 621. No dividends were paid in either 2004 or 2005.
