Lincolnshire County Council's four new Volvo FM 380 6x6 26-tonne snowplough gritters are fitted with Danish-built EPOKE intelligent gritter systems.
The GPS-controlled system automatically controls the amount of brine and salt dispensed over pre-programmed routes. Areas that require
extra attention are programmed in, while gritting is automatically suspended if the driver strays off route.
The process is more cost-effective, and allows the driver to concentrate on driving.
The trucks, which were supplied by local authority transport services provider Translinc, are being operated by a three-way partnership between the County Highways Department, Translinc and the Ringway Group, who provide drivers and loading services.
