The RHA says it will launch "a pioneering programme aimed at increasing the security of loads, vehicles, premises and staff during the movement, handling and storage of goods," at a security seminar next week.
Truck crime remains a key issue for Britain's road freight industry despite strenuous efforts to deter criminals. Some 3,000 heavy goods vehicles and their loads still go missing every year - many never recovered - representing an estimated full insurance value of £1bn, the RHA says.
The fifth RHA security seminar is at Towcester Racecourse next Tuesday.
Speakers include: Vernon Coaker MP Parliamentary Under-Secretary for policing and organised crime, who will discuss government action to tackle road freight crime; David Ainsworth, assistant chief constable, Kent and ACPO lead on vehicle crime; Mark Hooper, Truckpol; Richard Davies, insurance Fraud Bureau, on the risks of drivers being "set up" or attacked; and Mike Briggs of Thatcham, which was attacked last month as "irrelevant, avaricious and arrogant" by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
