The RHA hosted an open day attended by 30 politicians, civil servants from the Treasury and DfT, and executives from VOSA, the police and elsewhere to see what trucks are like. The event was supported by all the main UK truck manufacturers - Volvo brought a 25.25m rig from Sweden - and was held at the TRL test ground.
Meanwhile, TRL urged the industry to answer three questions: Is there a fundamental need for longer and heavier lorries in the UK? Are the benefits "sufficient to outweigh the dis-benefits, taking account of the conditions under which the vehicles might be permitted to operate? What steps need to be taken if their use were to be permitted?"
