Hargreaves wins fresh licence, but with conditions

02 November 2006

Hargreaves Haulage (Coppull) has obtained a licence for two vehicles and two trailers - on the condition that sole director Andrew Hargreaves is not involved with transport management.

North western deputy traffic commissioner Elizabeth Perrett granted the licence "after a great deal of soul searching" on hearing that Hargreaves was employing a transport manager whose activities he would not interfere with.

An original application for three more vehicles was denied, as she was not  convinced that systems were in place for the company to cope.

Perrett revoked Hargreaves' own licence after it was alleged that maintenance records were falsified. Hargreaves admitted not training his drivers to do proper checks, assuming they knew what to do, but denied falsifying records.

While ruling that his repute as a transport manager was lost as he did not fully grasp what was required, Perrett said she thought Hargreaves was let down by employees he relied upon.
