Scottish timber and haulage contractor I&S Young has sold four of its tractor units and 10 trailers at auction after deciding to downsize the business because of poor rates.
Owner Ian Young reports that the Stirling-based company will only be running just two trucks from now on. "At the end of the day, we can't get the rates and the maintenance costs are scandalous because we're running on substandard roads," he adds.
I&S Young recently ended a contract with BSW Timber - Britain's largest sawmilling business - because of an inability to get a rate rise. It will now concentrate on work for Falkirk-based James Callander & Son.
The I&S Young auction took place on 4 November at a site in Kippen, Stirling.
