Edwards Logistics doubles profits as turnover shrinks

09 November 2006

Edwards Logistics, the in-house transport firm for the American Standard group of companies, boosted its profits by 215% in the financial year to December 2005.

Overall profit grew from £89,000 in 2004 to £280,700 in 2005 - the year in which Edwards pulled out of third-party transport in the UK and Belgium. Pre-tax profit rose from £133,301 to £468,124, despite turnover falling from £26.4m  to £22.4m

In the financial report the directors says they will be concentrating on providing logistics services to other American Standard Group companies although the firm will "continue to review its third-party options".

Nobody from Edwards Logistics was available for comment.

Geoff Edwards set up the company in 1946 with used a nine-tonner on an A-licence. In February 1968 it became an autonomous operating unit of Ideal Standard - a division of American Standard - which makes bathroom furnishings.
