Business soars at Prestwick International Airport

09 November 2006

Glasgow Prestwick International Airport has reported its highest volume of freight for two years, boosting work for local hauliers.

A total of 2,896 tonnes of freight went through the airport in October, the highest monthly figure since December 2004. The airport says more freight was carried by all its scheduled carriers, including Atlas/Polar and British Airways World Cargo, which started services from Prestwick towards the end of the month.

Local haulier Tu-Max, which specialises in business from the airport, was among those to benefit.

Director Russell McIntosh says: "The last six weeks have been very good, although the year up until then has been pretty poor. There is always a bit of an increase in the run-up to Christmas but manufacturing in this part of Scotland is not going very well just now."

Tu-Max carries a range of loads, including computer equipment, from Prestwick to destinations including Ireland, London and other Scottish airports.
