Storage boost for Boughey

16 November 2006

Warehousing helps boost Boughey Distribution's turnover and profit. Cheshire firm Boughey Distribution, part of the NWF Group, says that filling its warehousing to capacity helped boost its turnover by 21% during the financial year ending 31 May 2006. Turnover was £28m pre-tax profit rose from £238,000 to £1.4m. Boughey Distribution MD Keith Forster explains: "We're involved in more than just haulage. A large part of our business is warehousing and towards the middle of the year we filled all  our warehousing - which put the cream on top of the milk!" However, the latest rise in the minimum wage and higher vehicle prices are affecting the company's bottom line, Forster adds.

The rise in the minimum wage affects our warehouse staff, and it's a big issue," he reports. Operating profit rose from £346,000 to £1.54m for the year. The company's directors describe the results and prospects for the future as "satisfactory". Boughey Distribution has just taken on its 100th truck, a new Volvo FH 440. It is also the 100th Volvo in Boughey's fleet. Keith Forster, Boughey's managing director, says: "From our point of view, attaining our centenary vehicle not only marks the company's success to date, but also begins a new era for us as our company develops." The firm has just started work on a £16m warehousing project designed to target customers in the non-ambient sector.
