Writing in Motor Transport this week (see Viewpoint p12), he says that certain networks have inflated their figures and this has caused leading industry researcher Triangle to estimate growth in the 12 months to July 2006 as around 25%. Scarlett believes the figure is half that - and Triangle's Robin Parr-Davies concedes he could be right. No-one can be certain of the true figure, he says. Growth is without doubt slowing, he adds.
Meanwhile Global Pallet System chairman Mike Chamberlain hit back at those who doubt there is room in the market for his new pallet network. Prospective members are due to meet near the West Midlands hub next Wednesday morning and he is expecting around 50 companies to be represented. Well over half the UK postcodes are spoken for and all of Ireland will be covered by one company, he says.
Chamberlain says GPS is offering multi-depot companies the opportunity to come in with most or all of their depots established networks can offer one or two postcodes at best, he says. Chamberlain says he will be asking firms to make firm commitments next Wednesday, and contracts will be sent out immediately afterwards. He is contactable on 0798 0345213.
