Volvo has gained certification for its 11-, 13-, and 16-litre engines from the Environmental Protection Agency for the new US07 emission standard. In what looks like just-in-time engine technology, the certification was gained on November 9 - and the standard takes effect for production from January 1, 2007.
The engine line-up brings together the 11-litre version sold by Renault in Europe and the Volvo-brand larger engines. Volvo has 70 trucks testing the new versions, 30 of them in customer fleets.
Volvo Truck UK MD Markku Olkinuora has reminded customers that his company offers EGR as well as SCR engines at Euro 4. Writing in the latest issue of customer magazine Inside Lane, he says: "We have made our position clear on our preference for SCR technology as the best possible solution for the majority of operators. However, as some customers have requested the choice...we also offer an EGR solution."
