Funding runs out for SAFED in Scotland

23 November 2006

The government-funded Safed scheme was designed three years ago by a consortium of leading industry specialists to improve driving techniques. The Safed Scotland scheme was launched last year more than 1,000 drivers received government funding for the course.

Now that funding has run out, training companies like GTG are promoting the course on a commercial basis. GTG is running one-day courses in Edinburgh and Glasgow for operators and individual drivers.

Billy Hammond, transport  training manager at GTG, says: "I personally believe this is one of the best courses ever to have come out of the transport industry - although it is difficult to persuade some people who are very sceptical about training."

A one-day driver training course at GTG costs £250.
