Modec says that it has a firm order for 15 of its electrically-powered vans, with delivery scheduled for spring next year. The customer is not yet willing to be named but is a large company and the vehicles will be used for home deliveries, Modec says. There are no capital grants involved in the sale - the electric vehicles are financially viable in their own right, although in London they will be exempt from the congestion charge.
Modec says its competitors are the Ford Transit, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Iveco Daily. Modec, which exhibited at the CV Show this year, says it is budgeting to assemble 400 units at its site in Coventry during 2006, its first year of production. Almost all of those will be for the UK.
