Court to start again with Pole

23 November 2006

Polish driver Stanislaw Jaworecki, aged 50 and speaking no English, sat outside a court as magistrates fined him £348 with costs unaware that he was waiting patiently for his hearing. They fined his boss, Israr Rahim, of the Adam car transport firm, based in Tyseley, £1,280 including costs after he pleaded guilty to seven offences. Those included permitting Jaworecki's offence, using an untaxed truck with no annual test certificate and fraudulently using a vehicle licence. Jaworecki was told to  come back later for a re-hearing when an interpreter could be arranged.

Rahim said he had not been fully aware of the tachograph laws and apologised for the offences. He had arrived late at the court after magistrates had earlier approved a warrant for his arrest, believing that he, too, was not turning up. Lee Trubshaw, prosecuting for VOSA, said the offences came to light when one of Rahim's car transporters was stopped for a roadside check on the M42 near Tamworth, Warwickshire.
