Deaf driver achieves dream

30 November 2006

Chris Pearce has achieved his childhood dream of being a truck driver, joining Norman E Webb. Pearce, 23, who was born with a hearing impairment, registered with driving agency 24-7 Staffing after being unable to find work due to his age and lack of experience.

Webb approached 24-7 to offer Pearce a position after he did some van work with the company, before doing 7.5ton multi-drop deliveries for a Bristol firm. The Wiltshire haulier keeps in touch with Pearce by text, as it is less open  to misinterpretation.
