Polish co-op helps out

30 November 2006

A Polish lorry drivers' co-operative has solved a driver recruitment problem in the South-east of England suffered by Suttons Transport Group.

The Polish mutual company, which pays dividends and benefits to its members, guarantees to supply 15 drivers at any given time, taken from a pool of 25 specially trained for the work. Drivers typically work two months in the UK and then go back to Poland for a month.

The arrangement took five months to set up and has been in place for three  months it was a big investment and is working well, Suttons says.
