The FTA has given its public backing for longer heavier vehicles - especially the 25.25m, 60-tonne design - for the first time. The FTA's road freight council called on the government to carry out road trials, "recognising that the operational benefits may well be biased towards the longer vehicles' ability to carry more volume rather than weight".
Putting two ISO containers on one lorry saves CO2 per container moved, it adds. The RHA has yet to declare a policy. Longer heavier trucks are known to be opposed by a proportion of its members.
