Skills for Logistics has been awarded £1.65m for training under its new "Women & Work" project. It aims:
to train 400 women to drive lorries and gain NVQs using innovative LGV training solutions;
to develop the roles of 500 women working within warehousing occupations and equip them for management positions;
and to develop a suite of materials to assist with continuous professional development and career progression trialed with 200 women currently working in junior
management roles.
Logistics suffers from a gender imbalance because, in England, 22% of employees are women compared with 46% of the workforce as a whole, SfL says. The grant is from the Department for Education and Skills under its "Women & Work Sector Pathways Initiative".
