Tough time on the Tyne

07 December 2006

Port of Tyne Distribution has reported a fall in pre-tax profits to 157,000 for the year ended December 31 2005, compared with 215,000 in 2004. The company's turnover fell to 8.90m, down from 9,20m in 2004. Gross profit stood at 630,000, little changed form 662,000. The firm's debtors amounts were 2,338,000 in 2005, up from 2,192,000.

The director's report states: "The year 2005 has proved to be tough for the road transport sector generally. Decline in consumer demand in the middle to  the end of last year coupled with steep rises in the price of fuel led to downward pressure on profits. "In these circumstances it is good that the company managed to maintain a positive position although profit is lower than the 2004 financial year. The company will survive these pressures and actively expand in key markets."
