Cheshire-based food transport firm Boughey Distribution plans to expand and boost its turnover to 30m per year.
This will involve recruiting another 250 staff this year and acquiring 50 more trucks; it has already taken on an extra 28,000m2 of warehouse space.
Steve Woodhead, the company's business development manager, says Boughey has responded to customer demand for extra storage capacity: "There's a growing trend towards consolidation centres in the grocery industry. We're a major distributor
and people are coming to us to do business."
Blue-chip clients include Princes Foods and HP Foods. Last year the company's turnover rocketed from 16m to 23m, and this year it is expected to reach 27m. However pre-tax profits have not followed suit - they fell to 227,000, down from 890,000 the previous year.
The new employees will include drivers and warehouse and administration staff.
