Transhaul (UK) is doubling its Leighton Buzzard warehouse space by the New Year. The development will mean the company's premises expand to 120,000 sq ft. The haulier's rise in fortunes have doubled turnover and secured a 123% profit increase for the year to November 2005, after its move to Grovebury Road, Leighton Buzzard in 2004. And "this year [profit] is looking even better," managing director Nigel Machado tells Motor Transport, with turnover predicted to reach a 40% growth by the 2006 year end. The growth has secured the company's place in MT's top 100 for the largest turnover growth among companies with sub-£10m turnover, at 108%.
The secret, says Machado, is that "we treat customers as partners, they come to us and we tailor to what they need". The haulier has won contracts with blue-chip companies EMI Music, Thresher Group, Red Bull, and Lufthansa, for which a dedicated 50,000 sq ft depot in Pitstone, Tring is operated by up to 30 staff. Last month the company took delivery of three new trailers and two new Scania R480 6x2 trucks, bringing the total fleet to 14. Machado says that no problems with truck crime have occurred at Tebay Services, the current truck no-stop area where the company previously held a depot.
He recalls curtain slashing problems at the company's previous base in Sundon Park, Luton. The move to Leighton Buzzard allowed the company to "deal with bigger accounts" due to the larger premises, but Machado says the company now has "far less" problems with crime. The company took delivery of two new Scania R480 6x2 trucks, bringing the total fleet to 14.
