The truck market is showing the first signs of recovery, having been hit this year by new legislation in the form of digital tachographs in May and the arrival of Euro 4 in October.
"Over the past couple of weeks we have seen the first signs of growth," says Tony Pain, Daf's marketing director.
He says the recent boost in registrations has been helped by "the more aggressive rental companies, who are starting to buy again". He cites Dawson Rentals as a prime example.
Pain believes that digital tachographs are becoming less of an issue now too, with a growing number of drivers applying for the cards. "Drivers are beginning to realise that without a card they can't drive the newsest trucks on the fleet. They don't want to be left with an old dog, so are sorting out their cards."
