14 December 2006

HRH the Princess Royal visited MAN's Swindon head office to collect a cheque for £1,000 for industry charity Transaid's Christmas Appeal. Des Evans, MAN UK chief executive, presented the cheque to HRH and Chris Saunders, Transaid chief executive. Motor Transport has donated space to Transaid in this week's issue and the Christmas appeal raised in total £23,300.

HRH also heard how MAN ERF apprentices have developed a motorcycle ambulance trailer to give pregnant women in Nigeria the chance  to get to health clinics in case of emergency. The vehicle is designed to operate from areas where there are no roads. It was designed by the apprentices at S&B Training in Bristol. Apprentice Declan Donnelly, lecturer Pete Vill and Paul Sadley of MAN visited Nigeria to organise the local manufacture of the special trailers.
