HST Feeds has taken delivery of its first Euro 4 truck, a Volvo FM480 tractor. Logistics manager Julian Heaton tells MT that there was much deliberation over whether to opt for EGR or SCR, and that he finally decided on the latter after seeking advice from other hauliers and attending a number of seminars on the subject. "SCR seems to be far more cost-effective than EGR in terms of reliability and fuel consumption" he says. Heaton explains that he initially found it difficult to locate a supply of AdBlue, so has been buying small quantities at a time from the local Volvo dealer. However he has since been contacted by numerous suppliers, and expects to start bulk purchasing the urea solution soon.
The FM is not only the first tractor on the Cheshire-based company's fleet, but also the first Volvo. It used to run an all-Daf fleet, but Heaton explains that he wasn't satisfied with either Daf's product or service, and thought it was time for a change. "The company has never owned a Volvo truck before," he says, "but having spoken to a number of hauliers in our industry, Volvo has been recommended time and time again." The truck was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials in Middlewich, which will also service it.
