Pulleyn Transport has skipped Euro 4 in favour of Euro 5 in order to take advantage of reduced toll charges on Germany's autobahns. The pharmaceutical carrier, which has taken delivery of three Mercedes-Benz Actros 2546 Executive tractors and has another 11 on order, estimates that at any one time 90% of its trucks are working on the Continent.
Managing director Adrian Pulleyn says: "We looked carefully at all sorts of factors before placing our latest order for new vehicles. "If you were only making the occasional run over to Europe then it would be difficult to justify paying the extra for a Euro 5 vehicle (£1,000 more than Euro 4). However, most of our work involves sending vehicles across the Channel."
