Following its purchase of the Frans Maas group last year, DFDS Transport - re-branded as DSV this month - is now on the lookout for further acquisitions across Europe.
Jens Bjorn Andersen, MD of DSV Road in the UK, says the firm is particularly looking for new purchases in Germany, France, Spain and Italy as well as "bolt-on acquisitions elsewhere".
The firm spent much of last year integrating the Frans Maas operations after its purchase in April, which Andersen says is a "hand-in- glove" fit but which he admits has resulted in some cuts, including the closure of some 15 facilities and the loss of some 200-300 employees in the UK.
The total road transport operation now has around 10,000 vehicles on the road and more than 13,000 employees making it one of the top three players in the EU, says Andersen. In the UK the firm handles around 15 million international road shipments a year, he adds.
Although DSV acquired DFDS's road transport operations from the DFDS group five years ago, it has up until now continued to use the DFDS brand but the time is now right to change all operations over to the DSV brand, says Andersen - a move which takes immediate effect.
