Environment top priority for business leaders

23 January 2007

The 16th annual UPS Europe Business Monitor (EBM) has found that business leaders in Europe prioritise environmental protection over economic growth or securing future energy supplies.

EBM analyses the opinions of  1,450 senior business leaders from Europe’s top 15,000 companies by revenue.

When asked which issues should be the highest priority for global political leaders, 45% of Europe’s top business executives agreed on environmental protection, followed by 40% saying sustained economic growth.

A majority of respondents in the UK (56%) also believed that environmental protection should be political leaders’ top concern. Only in France was support for this policy greater (64%).

Richard Currie, public affairs director of UPS UK and Ireland, says: "It is encouraging to see that business leaders in Europe are recognising the importance  of protecting the environment and it is especially interesting that they now see this as the top priority for global politics."
