The boss of a Cambridgeshire freight company has been fined a total £29,000 for serious breaches of health and safety regulations at his depot.
Christopher Synowiec, who runs Cam European Freight Services of Bassingbourn, admitted breaching Health and Safety at Work regulations during a hearing before Cambridge magistrates.
The court heard that environmental health inspectors from South Cambridgeshire District Council had visited the company's depot and found wrongly stacked stock and a lack of risk assessments.
When they returned after issuing warnings they found the necessary improvements had not been fully made.
In handing out the fines magistrates called Mr Synowiec's handling of the issue "reckless".
Mr Synowiec said he would appeal the level of the fine, adding in his defence: "The company took on off-site overspill warehousing in Bassingbourn to accommodate a standalone contract.
"Regrettably our client misinformed us of the volumes involved and the warehouse became overstocked and additional space was not available in the immediate vicinity.
"I would make it perfectly clear that in no way was our timing of carrying out alterations connected to any financial gain whatsoever - we simply could not find additional space."
