A Northern Irish haulage firm has been ordered to pay €250,000 compensation to the family of a television presenter killed in an accident six years ago.
Woodside Haulage, of Ballyclare, County Antrim, owned the artic which was involved in a collision with the car in which Uaneen Fitzsimons was travelling. She presented a late-night radio show and a TV show for Irish national broadcaster RTE .
Laois County Council was also involved in the case because the company had made claims about the state of the road where the accident happened.
However, these claims were dismissed by Mr Justice Lavan because more than 500 LGVs use it every day and there have been no comparable accidents.
He found the company liable for the accident. No one at Woodside was available for comment.
