Trucks using less AdBlue than expected

25 January 2007

AdBlue consumption in 7.5-tonners is considerably lower than originally expected, allowing some operators to treat it as a service item - taking the responsibility away from the driver.

This is the view of TNT's national engineering manager Steve Davis, who refers to his experience with a 7.5-tonne Euro 4 Renault Midlum. "I know we aren't running at full weight, but the consumption is definitely lower than the OEMs originally suggested."

This is a sentiment echoed by Iveco boss Chris Thorneycroft-Smith, who says Euro 4 AdBlue is on average used at a rate of 2% in the real world, contrary to the initial estimate of 5%.
