Stobart decides on EGR

Eddie Stobart has placed its feet firmly in the EGR camp by ordering more than 500 EGR-equipped Scanias.

Following trials, Stobart opted for a mix of Scania R420 tractors and rigids. Scania (GB) MD Dan Hoij says: "Scania's EGR was a factor in our favour as Eddie Stobart wishes to avoid the additional burden of SCR and AdBlue." Stobart used whole-life costs, fuel economy and operating efficiency as part of its selection criteria.

The R420 is powered by  Scania's Euro-4 11-litre straight- six producing 420hp at 1,900rpm with maximum torque of 2,100Nm. Scanias with the straight-six engine use EGR the larger V8 engines use SCR. But Scania promises that by 2009, when the Euro-5 standard becomes compulsory, all its engines will be using EGR.

In addition to the tractors and rigids, two fire appliances have been ordered to operate at Carlisle Airport, which the firm owns.
