Truckwatch expands with new funding

01 February 2007

Truckwatch, the regional freight crime reduction initiative, has been extended to the Yorkshire and Humber regions.

In November 2006, funding from regional development agency Yorkshire Forward enabled TruckWatch to become a regional scheme, working with the region's operators and four police forces (South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside), as well as Crimestoppers.

Other partners include the Humber Regional Assembly, the Road Haulage Association, Highways  Agency, Vosa and Hull University Institute of Logistics.

TruckWatch's Helen Parr says: "It is a membership scheme and a key activity is to notify member drivers about stolen vehicles or loads following a call to the police. In the first full year of operation, South Yorkshire Police crime statistics indicated that the theft of loads and vehicles fell by 66%."

  • The first of the five official launches will be on 8 February in South Yorkshire at the Marriot Courtyard Hotel in Rotherham.
  • For further information email Helen Parr, project manager, People United Against Crime or call on 0114 2758688.
