The transport division of Hargreaves Services managed to push up turnover, operating profit and pre-tax profit in the year to May 31, 2006.
Turnover grew to £41.6m from £38.0m in 2005. Pre-tax profit rose to £2.3m from £345,000 while operating profit jumped to £2.4m in 2006 from £857,000 the previous year.
The company's directors say this was a "good result" considering the cost pressures, particularly of fuel and tyres. They stress that although the market remains buoyant, it is still competitive. Highlights of the transport division, which is mainly involved in bulk haulage and waste transport, included winning a "number of substantial contracts" and the introduction of the working time directive which was "successfully dealt with at an operational level".
