BPW says it experienced an increase in demand for its trailer axles in 2006. According to its annual review of the trailer building industry, some 18,600 semi-trailers were built in the UK and Ireland last year - representing a 4% downturn on 2005, which itself showed a reduction of 10% on 2004.
BPW estimates that its market share improved slightly to 47% last year, mostly to the detriment of Meritor which saw its slice of the market slip to 28%. Both SAF and DaimlerChrysler also showed an improvement, taking 13% and 12% respectively.
