Additive claimed to help biofuel problems

01 February 2007

An aftermarket additive newly developed by Chevron in collaboration with fuel system supplier Delphi is claimed to overcome some of the problems experienced with biodiesel blends and with high-sulphur and/or poor quality regular fuel, especially in today's high-pressure common-rail system injectors. Delphi Diesel Plus is said to combat abnormal injector wear, with resulting increased emissions and loss of fuel efficiency.

Ard Martens from ChevronTexaco's Ghent, Belgium, based Oronite additive  division, says the product, added at a 0.6% recommended fuel dosing rate, is also designed to prevent the injector nozzle 'lacquering' deposits associated with higher percentage biodiesel blends. Included in the additive package is a lubricity agent intended to compensate for the lower lubricity of biodiesel and some other modern fuels.
