BPW enjoys increased sales despite shrinking market

01 February 2007

BPW says it experienced an increase in demand for its trailer axles in 2006, despite the UK market showing further signs of shrinkage. According to its annual review of the trailer building industry, some 18,600 semi-trailers were built in the UK and Ireland last year - representing a 4% downturn on 2005, which itself showed a reduction of 10% on 2004.

It estimates that its market share improved slightly to 47% last year, mostly to the detriment of Meritor which saw its slice of the market  slip to 28%. Both SAF and DaimlerChrysler also showed an improvement, taking 13% and 12% accordingly. BPW has teamed-up with Vignal Systems of France to market the Vignal range of trailer lighting products in the UK and Ireland.
