Tipton Transport has increased its pre-tax profit amid falling turnover. The West Midlands haulier's turnover dipped to £2.7m for the year to March 31, 2006, from £2.8m in 2005, but pre-tax profit in 2006 rose to £71,242 from £25,217. Operating profit also climbed, to £85,464 in 2006 from £39,173 the year before.
A large corporation and deferred tax bill of £167,893 pushed the company, owned by Evans Transport, to a £96,651 retained loss in 2006, from 2005's retained profit of £4,364. The wages bill for 2006 fell to £737,909 from £845,761 in 2005 as staff numbers dropped by seven to 36. No emoluments were paid to the directors in the year.
