The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings for every region of England, Wales and Northern Ireland for tomorrow (Thursday 8th February), as heavy snow is forecast throughout - with up to 10-15cm (4-6in) forecast for the West Midlands and Wales.

The Road Haulage Association points out that drivers should "take even more care than usual on the roads and plan well ahead". It adds:

• Customers may well find that deliveries are delayed.
• Common sense is the best safety  measure that can be taken when road conditions are bad.
• Let your employer know when conditions are bad so that he can inform the customer accordingly
• Drive with extra care and look out for inexperienced road users
• If you don’t have in-cab communication, make sure that your mobile phone is fully charged.

The Highways Agency says that 400 salt spreaders are on standby, and suggests that drivers prepare by taking:

• warm clothes
• food and water
• boots
• de-icer
• a torch
• a spade.
