Carter doubles pre-tax profits

Container specialist W Carter (Haulage) predicts more sales and maintained margins in its 2007 financial year.

The company's directors report that they are "very pleased" with the performance for the year to August 31, 2006, which more than doubled pre-tax profit to £1.6m, from £728,696 in 2005.

Turnover grew 7.9% to £37.8m in 2006, while operating profit leapt to £1.8m from £1.1m in 2005.

Related company Deben Transport, which is 41% owned by Carters' parent company  CEL Group, saw improved pre-tax profit in 2006, to £664,887 from £196,573 in 2005. An 8.4% rise takes the company's turnover to £15.3m in 2006, while operating profit has almost doubled, to £736,872.

Consolidated results for CEL Group show turnover of £60.1m in 2006, including revenue from joint ventures, and pre-tax profit of £2.7m for 2006, double the £1.3m posted in 2005.
