International container transport company Samskip has purchased Scottish freight-forwarding firm Saltire Integrated Shipping.
Peter Work, joint shareholder at Saltire, says he and partner Sandy Valentine are selling their company so it can expand with the backing of a larger owner: "We needed a partner who could support us in all aspects of the business and, of course, in our development plans.
"In Samskip we've found an equally ambitious company with a desire to grow a logistics
forwarding business, not just in Scotland but throughout its international network."
Work and Valentine will continue to run Saltire from Glasgow with the existing team they will report to Samskip's UK MD, Simon Dwyer, who describes the deal as a natural step: "This acquisition will give our mutual client base access to the complete logistics product portfolio in Scotland and beyond."Samskip employs 1,400 people and is one of Europe's largest container transport companies.
The company has expanded over the past two years, acquiring Dutch multimodal transport firm Geest North Sea Line in 2005, as well as British operator Seawheel.
