Biffa has taken delivery of its 1,000th Volvo, a FM400 8x4 with Heil front-end loader bodywork.
Given the poor traction surfaces that the company often operates on, it has opted for Volvo's Powertronic fully automatic gearbox instead of I-Shift. This transmission features a built-in retarder and the braking system includes full EBS with Traction Control and Hill Hold. Diff-Lock engagement and disengagement is fully automatic, a feature which protects the driveline and the driver when negotiating poor surfaces by removing the need to stop and put the diff locks in.
