Construction companies are demanding the cleanest trucks in order to bid for 2012 Olympics contracts.
As a result DAF Trucks has experienced a recent boost in demand for Euro 5 eight-leggers, and says it is also receiving requests for even cleaner vehicles.
"Traditionally you would expect demand for the cleanest trucks to come from supermarkets, not tipper operators," says DAF Trucks marketing director Tony Pain. "But we are getting plenty of enquiries for 'Euro 5 and a half' and Euro 6 eight-leggers."
He says DAF is currently working on EEV - Euro 5 with a particulate trap - which should be on the market by 2008.
"I can't believe the speed of the change in regard to cleaner vehicles. It has all kicked-off in the past few months," says Pain. "Every truck maker must be reviewing their environmental policies."
