Carbon fibre racking lightens load

20 February 2007

Lloyds TSB Autolease will unveil a carbon concept vehicle (CCV) at the CV Show.

The van, which is based on a VW Transporter Sportline, features modular carbon fibre racking and an internal storage system - replacing what would normally have been built of wood, steel or aluminium.

It claims the racking is as robust as conventional materials, but is light enough  to reduce the overall weight of the van by some 100kg.

Grahame Neagus, head of the Specialist CV unit, says: "It shows our commitment to making our clients' operations more efficient, but it also shows that we are dedicated to reducing their costs and enhancing safety through technology."
