Wm Armstrong calls for major upgrade to border route

21 February 2007

A Cumbrian operator and local councillor is calling for major improvements in the quality of a major road on the English/Scottish border.

William Armstrong, owner of Longtown-based family business W Armstrong, is pushing for sweeping improvements to the road joining the A6071 after running from Longtown to Gretna and Springfield.

Armstrong says: "This is the main route off the M74 into Gretna and it's used a lot by hauliers. There is subsidence, drains are collapsing and it needs to  be totally resurfaced."

Armstrong, who recently has taken over as chair of Kirkandrew-on-Esk parish council, says he will be pushing for Cumbria County Council to invest more money in improvements on the route.
