ISO launches standards for CNG fuel components

27 February 2007

Guidelines on how haulage firms can best check the safety and good repair of compressed natural gas (CNG) components that power trucks are now available from the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).

The Geneva-based body is selling a standard that provides information and procedures for regular visual examinations of gas cylinders and their installation. This specifies inspection requirements, defines criteria for identifying damage, and advises on manufacturing, maintenance,  disposal of damaged cylinders, inspection equipment and the suggested qualification of inspectors.

"This standard is expected to increase the market for road vehicles powered by natural gas by making the on-board storage of this alternative fuel even safer," says the ISO.
