Hastings takes larger-payload Canter for city work

06 March 2007

Barlborough, Derbyshire-based distribution firm Hastings Freight has taken its first steps to a green procurement policy.

Its new 7.5-tonne Mitsubishi Canter, with a 3.5t payload, has been specified for city deliveries and collections. The increased payload (up by a tonne over regular Canter configurations) should reduce the miles travelled and the fuel used.

Proprietor Alan Hastings says: "The new smaller vehicles are much more manoeuvrable - making them ideal for our collections  and deliveries, particularly in and around Sheffield. The drivers are finding city centre collections and deliveries much easier to negotiate, and the vast capacity of the vehicles reduces our carbon emissions."

Hastings is a member of pallet network Palletways and handles around 3,500 pallets per week.
